Stress echocardiography is a non-invasive (the skin is not pierced) test that uses sound waves (ultrasound) to show how well your heart muscle is working to pump blood to your body not only at rest, like an echocardiogram, but under stress. It is mainly used to detect a decrease in blood flow to the heart from narrowing in the coronary arteries, but can also help your doctor assess the function of your valves and the blood pressure in your lungs under the conditions of exercise, which enhances the understanding of your heart’s health. It combines two technologies, echo and stress testing.
